TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)-- The Tallahassee Fire Department is launching an internal investigation into allegations that a city fire lieutenant failed to deliver training he was paid to provide. Instead, a student claims the Lieutenant offered test answer and other course materials in exchange for money, without having to take the course.
The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating and looking to see if students in other parts of the state were affected by the training as well.
"It could be that this affects a number of folks that are not employed with the fire department as well," said Lt. Mike Bellamy, "Obviously the state fire marshal's office, if they take action, that may dictate what their job can continue to be at the fire department."
Lt. Bellamy says the courses were not given on Tallahassee Fire Department property or paid for with city money.
Interim Fire Chief said, "we do know that this training was provided through the city or our fire department, but because it may involve one or more city fire employees, we are investigating to gather all the facts."
"It's so early on to find out whether there is any validity to the allegations," said Lt. Bellamy, "but it's business as usual at TFD and we'll continue to serve as we always have."
The Tallahassee Police Department is also investigating if there was any criminal intent.
