TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Tallahassee Police Department says a former Star Metro driver has been arrested for grand theft auto after she stole a city bus Friday afternoon.
Police say that just after noon on Friday, they responded to the area of Champions Way and Hendry Street near FSU for a stolen Star Metro bus.
The bus was later recovered near the 2700 block of West Tharpe Street.
The woman, identified as Darica Howard, was later seen walking in the area, and was taken into custody before being transported to the Leon County Detention Facility. She has been charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle.
They say Howard is an ex-employee/driver of StarMetro. City of Tallahassee records show that Howard was a driver for nearly 10 years and was a part-time driver before becoming a full-time driver in October 2016.
She resigned on January 4, 2017.
The City of Tallahassee says that the bus was not in service during the theft, so no passengers were involved.
She was taken to the Leon County Detention Facility and her bond has been set at $5,000.
