TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee man will spend life in prison for stalking a woman, assaulting her and trying to pour gasoline on her last year.
Jimmy Baity, 46, will spend life in prison for assaulting a woman back in October 2017.
Baity was found guilty of aggravated stalking after court order, attempted first degree murder and burglary with assault at trial back in August.
According to an arrest document, Baity followed the victim in his car and rammed her car not once but twice before he "ripped" the victim out of her car, pushed her to the ground, and started beating her.
Witnesses told police he was also holding a gas can when he pulled the victim out of her car and tried to pour gas on her.
Investigators later discovered that the victim had a injunction against Baity barring him from seeing her, which he violated.
Man charged with attempted homicide in Tallahassee
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A man has been arrested, accused of chasing and ramming a victim's car with his before beating her and trying to pour gasoline on her.
Jimmy Baity, 45, was arrested on Thursday.
According to an arrest document, the victim, who was driving a grey Toyota van, says she was traveling west on Mahan Drive headed toward Capital Circle Northeast when she saw Baity.
When Baity saw her, he turned his car around to follow her. The victim says she turned into a Publix parking lot (3122 Mahan Drive) in an attempt to get away, however, Baity followed her, ramming her car and causing a significant amount of damage.
The victim told police she tried to drive away again, but Baity again followed her and rear-ended her car a second time at the intersection of Industrial Plaza Drive, causing both cars to be disabled.
Witnesses told police Baity then got out of the car, "ripped" the victim out of her car, pushed her to the ground, and started beating her. Multiple witnesses stated that Baity was also holding a gas can when he pulled the victim out of her car and tried to pour gas on her.
A Good Samaritan tried to help the victim get away by pulling her into their car, officers say, but Baity was able to get inside the car, attempting to pull the victim out and making threats to kill her when law enforcement arrived.
Police arrested Baity, who they say was extremely agitated and was yelling that the victim had given him an STD. The victim was hospitalized after the incident.
Investigators later discovered that the victim had a injunction against Baity barring him from seeing her, which he violated.
Baity was arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, violation of an injunction, burglary with a person assaulted, and attempted homicide.
