TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- A challenging brick-and-mortar retail environment has claimed another chain:  Electronics and furniture store "hhgregg" begins liquidation sales Saturday, Apr. 8, and will go out of business.

The retailer, which has one local store on Apalachee Pkwy. in Tallahassee, announced Friday all 220 stores in 19 states will close in May following going-out-of-business sales.

hhgregg, based in Indianapolis and established in 1955, had suffered declining sales amid increased pressure from e-commerce sources like Amazon.  hhgregg filed for bankruptcy protection in March and announced 88 store closures at the time.

An effort to sell the chain was unsuccessful, triggering to the decision to close all stores.
