TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Tallahassee City Commission is meeting for their annual retreat.

WTXL ABC 227's Jada Williams was live Wednesday morning at the Smith-Williams Service Center Annex.

The big topic at the retreat is community engagement.

The retreat this year is even being held right here in the heart of the Southside, a key focus area for the commission.

The full day of conversation among the team will address things such as the 5 year Plan for the city and ethics in a relaxed environment.

To continue the commitment to being more community driven, there will even be a discussion about focusing on ways to drive more people into the commission meetings.

One of the suggestions includes hosting commission meetings throughout Tallahassee instead of only at City Hall.

Mayor John Dailey commented.

"If you look just the other night, we had our community meeting and we had over 200 residents show up to get the updates on what's going on in the Southside of Tallahassee, which we're very proud about," he said. "So its important for us to reach out, whether its expanding notifications or making sure that we have our meetings outside of City Hall so that we can have more involvement. These will be great conversations that we'll have."

Dailey said that, logistically speaking, it may be hard to host official City Commission meeting outside of the City Commission Chambers, but regularly hosting town halls could be a good substitute.

The retreat begins at Smith Walker at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
