Tallahassee Celebrates America with 4th of July bash

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- On Thursday, July 4, Tallahassee residents will have a chance to paint the town red, white and blue during Celebrate America, the city's annual Independence Day celebration.

This year’s entertainment will feature the Swingin Harpoon Blues Band and the Tobacco Rd Band. In addition to the Main Stage, there will also be a Showmobile Stage will feature a variety of entertainment, including Tallahassee Gymnastics Center Dance, TCC Dance Company, and The Shelter Band. Performers will begin to hit both stages around 5:30 p.m.

Celebrate America will also feature a Naturalization Ceremony that will take place on the Main Stage at 6:40 p.m. Honorable District Judge Mark Walker will be presiding.

For children,Tallahassee Parks, Recreation & Neighborhood Affairs Department will host an activity area featuring inflatables, supervised arts and crafts, four water slides and games. Parents are asked to bring sunscreen, bathing suits, towels, and a change of clothes for participating kids.

Food vendors will be on hand to offer a wide variety of food for all palates, including bbq, funnel cakes, snow cones, and seafood.

There is limited public parking inside Tom Brown Park. The Tallahassee Police Department will close all vehicular access to Tom Brown Park, except for the StarMetro shuttles and emergency vehicles, at 8:30 pm or earlier according to parking availability. Early arrival is recommended.

If you park further away, StarMetro will provide free shuttle service from Koger Center to Tom Brown Park. Shuttles will depart at 5:30 p.m. and run every 15 minutes. The last bus will leave the Koger Center at 9:00 pm. The Koger Center is located on Capital Circle S.E. The shuttles will load on the side of the Hartman Building facing Capital Circle. StarMetro will only pick up and drop off passengers at the Koger Center and at Tom Brown Park. No exceptions.

Personal fireworks and alcohol are strictly prohibited inside StarMetro Buses and at Tom Brown Park. A public beer garden will be available to those 21 years and older with Valid ID. No pets, except service animals, are allowed on the shuttles or in the park.
