TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Tallahassee bicyclist who was left in a coma after getting hit by a car last week has passed away from his injuries.
The Tallahassee Police Department says Tyler Clapp has died as a result of his injuries.
Clapp was hit by a car near North Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and West Georgia Street the afternoon of Oct. 21.
He suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash. According to a GoFundMe page, he was in a coma before passing away.
The GoFundMe shared an update on Clapp's passing:
Hi all. It’s with a heavy heart that I let you all know that Tyler passed shortly after 10:30 last night from complications from the accident. His family was in the room with him and we held his hands as he drew his last breaths. Thank you for your donations. They will be used toward medical and funeral-related expenses, and travel to get those of us who couldn’t afford it to his bedside last night - the doctors said they weren’t even sure they’d be able to give us the day it took us to get down to him, so we were lucky to be there. Then it will go to any hospital expenses not covered by his basic health insurance plan or the driver’s insurance. After that, I’d like to donate any remaining money, if there is any (and I don’t think there will be, given the likely limits of both insurance plans), to a bicycle safety program. If any of that isn’t acceptable, please let me know and I’ll ask GoFundMe to return your donation.
We’re asking that if you have pictures of Tyler that can be shared with his friends or family, please drop them in this Dropbox. Anyone with the link should be able to access it: Link
