TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)-- This morning, student and community leaders gathered on the lawn at the FSU College of Law for a rally to address violence in the workplace.

The rally also commemorated the 20th anniversary of the signing of the National Violence Against Women Act.

Those gathered, who are part of the Zonta Club of Tallahassee, also urged Leon County leaders to launch a comprehensive domestic violence and sexual assault workplace policy.

According to the group leading the rally the annual cost of lost productivity in the workplace because of domestic violence is nearly $727 million a year, with over 7.9 million workdays lost per year.

County Commissioner Kristin Dozier was at the rally and she says she was pleased with the rally's turnout.

"Even though this is a really difficult subject to talk about... to have this many organizations not just focus on the subject and honoring the 20th anniversary but talking about what their doing to address this problem was really great."

The Zonta Club is a professional business women's organization that works to promote the needs of women in the workplace.
