TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) and the National Council on Crime and Delinquency and Children's Research Center (NCCD) are officially agreeing to work together to improve child protective investigations.

The two agencies signed a Memorandum of Understanding on July 25 outlining the details of the partnership, which was created based on a need to examine the Structured Decision Making (SDM) risk assessment. The SDM risk assessment is a tool, copywriten by the NCCD, that classifies families by likelihood of future child maltreatment.

The NCCD will work with DCF to review policies and procedures related to the investigative tool. The is in effect until December 31, 2013, though both DCF and NCCD can stop the partnership at any time.
