SOUTH GEORGIA (WTXL) - Students in South Georgia made history, becoming some of the first students in the area to receive the REACH scholarship.

Both Thomasville and Colquitt County Schools celebrated their first ever REACH signing ceremonies Wednesday.

Five students from both middle schools signed to receive the scholarships. Georgia first lady Sandra Deal spoke to students at the signing Wednesday in Colquitt County about the importance of forming a college plan early.

Each student will earn $10,000 in scholarship money if they attend a "hope eligible college" in Georgia.
