VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL)- South Georgia Pecan Company will be expanding to meet capacity and growth needs.

The family owned company is the leading sheller and processor of shelled pecans in the U.S.

The Valdosta-Lowndes County Development Authority says the company is building a 74,000-square-foot expansion onto its current processing facility on U.S. Highway 84. The expansion will also add 20 full-time jobs.

The construction should be finished by the end of August.

Currently, the company processes about 55 million pounds of pecans annually, but with the expansion, that number will grow to 70 million pounds.

South Georgia Pecan Company has been around since 1913.
