TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The digital world of social media is continuing to define peoples' everyday lives.

With the recent Brett Kavanaugh hearings, a lesson is to be learned to take caution when posting on social media.

What you post now could have a greater affect in the future. According to the Pew Institute Research, today around seven in ten Americans use social media to connect with one another.

We spoke to a local media strategist to help guide the ways of thinking before you click the post or share button.

"Think of who your audience is, is your account public? Are colleagues/coworkers seeing this? or families? There's a lot to think about on how we interact on social media to be careful or cautious because we don't know how it will be used in the future," said Trimmel Gomes, President of Gomes Media Strategies.

Gomes also the stresses the importance of public figures taking caution of social media. Anything you post can be tracked even if it was deleted.
