TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Railroad Square has a new street side recycling program.

The property manager Lillian Finn says they're seeing more daily visitors with the addition of the FAMU Way Extension and the new pedestrian bridge over Monroe Street.

They are thrilled to have those visitors, but more visitors bring more trash that is often left behind.  To make it easy to recycle, you'll begin see new bins.

The double containers, one for trash and the other for recycling, are handmade with materials from around the park. Three are ready, but the goal is to have six.

Sustainable Tallahassee's executive director Jim Davis says there's a deficiency in the commercial area of recycling in the community and he hopes projects like this will bring awareness.

"Small businesses costs mean a lot so you have to prove that it's practical," said Davis. "The other thing is, businesses need to have a champion. If you can find a champion in the business who promotes it, than you have a better chance of doing that."

A proclamation was also issued Tuesday morning declaring the day as America Recycles Day.
