Perry man killed in multi-vehicle crash, FHP investigating

MADISON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A 61-year-old man was killed while two others were injured in a four-vehicle crash in Madison County. 

Eddie Smith, of Perry, died from his injuries in the accident.  

Florida Highway Patrol said the accident happened at about 2:20 p.m. on NE Collin Kelly Highway. 

According to FHP, a Ford Edge and a Hyundai Genesis were driving south on NE Collin Kelly Highway near Bayberry Road. 

Smith and a Toyota Runner were driving north on NE Collin Kelly Highway. 

FHP said the front of the Ford Edge hit the back of the Hyundai Genesis, causing the Hyundai to enter the northbound lane. The Hyundai then hit the driver's side of Smith's car, causing the Hyundai to spin out of control. As the Hyundai was spinning, it was hit by the Toyota Runner.

Smith's car continued onto the grass shoulder of the road before spinning onto an unnamed dirt road.  

The driver of the Ford Edge was not injured, while the drivers of the Hyundai and Toyota suffered serious and minor injuries respectively.   

According to FHP, everyone involved were wearing their seatbelts. 

FHP stated charges are pending. 


MADISON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Florida Highway Patrol is on the scene of a fatal accident in Madison County. 

FHP is currently on the scene of a fatal accident on NE Colin Kelly Highway and NE Bayberry Street in Madison. 

According to FHP, they were called to the scene at about 2:29 p.m. Friday.  

Madison Fire Department, Madison County Sheriff's Office, and Madison Fire Rescue are also on scene assisting FHP.  

According to the Madison Fire Department, four vehicles were involved and three people were taken to a local hospital with injuries. 

FHP is reporting there is also a roadblock in the area, so please use an alternate route to avoid the area.
