Parkland school shooter accused of attacking deputy in jail

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WTXL) - The man accused of killing 17 people at a Florida high school is facing new charges after allegedly attacking a guard in jail.

Nikolas Cruz, 20, allegedly attacked a officer inside the Broward County Jail. Cruz was jailed being charged with 17 counts of murder and 17 counts of attempted murder for the Valentine's Day mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. 

There are three new charges listed under Cruz' name on the Broward County jail website, including battery on a law enforcement officer, firefighter or paramedic.

The other charges include aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, firefighter or paramedic and use of electric or chemical weapon against a law enforcement officer.
