TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- Opportunity Tallahassee is an annual, day-long event, which gathers community members. Participants get an overview of the city, traveling around town to learn about the social, economic and educational structures that help Tallahassee thrive.

Some are long time residents who want to learn more about the city they live in and how to engage effectively with the community. Julie Meadows-Keefe, a Tallahassee resident, notes "I work in local government, so I wanted to get out and see and engage with the community to see things that I don't normally have a chance to see." Through the program, Tallahassee professionals and executives gain access to resources and contacts in a wide variety of fields. Attendees at "Opportunity Tallahassee" say they were looking for a way to participate and see new things.

Joshua DeSha, Chair of Opportunity Tallahassee, says "Experts, C.E.O.'s, folks in government, we have a lot of different talent that is coming to show just how great Tallahassee is and that's the point of this whole thing." Today's stops included French Town heritage hub, Cascades Park, College Town and many more. Community leaders believe citizen involvement and connecting with like-minded people can solve some of problems within Tallahassee.

The theme for this year is the future of Tallahassee and what that means in different industries. Opportunity Tallahassee hopes to provide citizens and community leaders a way to discover everything the capital city has to offer. If you missed today's event, registration soon opens for next year. The event is held annually each Fall.
