ATLANTA (AP) — Atlanta police are preparing to welcome 40 new officers to the force.

Police spokeswoman Elizabeth Espy said in a statement that a graduation ceremony is scheduled Wednesday for a class of 32 men and eight women. The ceremony is being held at 7 p.m. at North Atlanta High School.

Espy says 10 of the new recruits have military experience and 21 are college graduates. Espy says more than 20 of the new officers moved to Atlanta to join the department.

The new officers are joining the department after 22 weeks of training that includes constitutional law, defensive tactics, physical fitness and more.
