TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)- Quincy residents can soon expect quicker response times thanks to an incoming new fire station.
This new fire station would complete the fire coverage in Gadsden County, meaning there will no longer be any areas without a nearby fire station.
The groundbreaking took place Thursday afternoon on Salem Road.
Community members and firefighters have been fighting for this for about a decade now.
"In that Dogtown, Greenshade areas, there is not a fire station for 5 miles and in the expected arrive time, there's not enough to save homes in that area," said Brenda Holt, a Gadsden County Commissioner.
This also would reduce insurance costs for community members.
