DALLAS (AP) — Officials at a Dallas hospital are reviewing protocols after its emergency room sent a man with Ebola home after he told a nurse he had recently arrived from West Africa.

The decision by Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital to release the patient, who had just arrived from Liberia, could have put others at risk of exposure to the virus. The man returned to the ER a few days later when his condition worsened.

Hospital officials say the man's travel history was not widely shared during his initial visit to the ER. The facility is reviewing how the situation would have been handled if that information had been communicated to more staff.

The World Health Organization says Ebola has sickened more than 7,100 people in West Africa and killed more than 3,300.
