(WTXL) — President Donald Trump has declared a national emergency amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

President Trump made the declaration at the White House Friday regarding the coronavirus pandemic at 3 p.m.

The action will free up billions of dollars to fight the spread of the disease in the U.S.

Trump's announcement comes two days after he held a primetime address regarding the pandemic from the Oval Office.

During that address, Trump announced that he was instituting a 30-day ban on travel to all European nations besides the United Kingdom. That ban begins Friday.
