(WTXL) — Police in Virginia are warning of a “disturbing trend" across the country where teens are filming themselves coughing on produce and then posting the videos on social media.
Purcellville Police posted their warning to Facebook after a group of teens were caught on camera coughing on produce at a grocery store, then posting it on social media.
Authorities responded and are currently investigating the incident. The grocery store, which was not named by police, also immediately removed the items in question took appropriate measures to make sure there was no danger to shoppers.
"We have learned that this appears to be a disturbing trend on social media across the country, and we ask for help from parents to discourage this behavior immediately," the police department wrote on Facebook. "Please talk with your children and explain to them why such behavior is wrong, especially given the current situation regarding the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19)."
None of the teens have been arrested.

- Cover coughs and sneezes.
- Stay home if you're sick.
- Wear a facemask if your're sick.
- Clean and disinfect frequently-touched surfaces daily.
