TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - It was a busy day at the Florida Capitol as hundreds participated in National Guard Day.
People checked out helicopters, tanks, old weaponry, and much more. Governor Rick Scott also made an appearance, declaring March 21st Florida's official "National Guard Day."
Families enjoyed the unique experience, and National Guardsmen say they like teaching others about the importance of their jobs.
"They need to know what we do for a living. What we do as far as protecting the country," said National Guard Staff Sgt. Alberto Abbott. "This is just not a helicopter, but what we do. That's just not a truck, but that's what they do, the guys next to us. So there's just a lot of different things that we do. We're not just men and women in uniform. We can get deep into it, explaining what we do.
The Florida National Guard traces its lineage back 450 years to 1565.
