TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - About 1,200 Florida A&M University students are getting ready to cross the stage this weekend for the class of 2017 spring commencement ceremonies.
As WTXL ABC 27 learned, one pair of rattlers are celebrating their academic accomplishments while continuing a family tradition.
"My grandparents didn't have the educational means to come to and get higher learning but for them it wasn't even a thought for all their kids to go. It's almost like living a legacy come through my family. They had to start coming here in 1980 then we've continued to give great students to FAMU,"said Sheneka Faison, Masters in Business Administration from Florida A&M.
"My next step is hopefully an internship at NASA and then I hope to become an educator somewhere," said Deandrea Joseph, B.A. in Biology Education.
"I plan to apply to get my PHD I've actually already applied for it so hopefully I get accepted and continue my education," said Faison.
"My grandparents have instilled in us a desire to learn and desire to push further and preserve. So my family support meaning that my family has pushed me to work harder and keep going," said Joseph.
"It's the foundation of everything and it is the foundation of our family," said Faison. "I have a family of educators their all teachers, pharmacist, doctors their all educated and that's the foundation of setting your self up for success in life."
