MIAMI (AP) - An Ohio family that failed to return from an airboat excursion in the remote Florida Everglades is back on dry land.
Scott Schreck says he simply took a wrong turn in the wilderness and couldn't get the airboat turned around. Schreck, his wife and their three boys ended up spending a rainy night in the Everglades but officials say they are all in good condition.
The family from Seville, Ohio, was found Friday after searchers heard them blowing whistles and an air horn.
They were found after a massive search that included helicopters, airplanes and at least six airboats. Searchers were looking over some 1,000 square miles north of Everglades National Park. It is covered in tall, sharp-edged sawgrass and dark cypress tree stands that limit visibility.
