TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- Big changes are on the way at a major Tallahassee intersection.

A firm called "Kaiserkane Tennessee & Monroe LLC" filed building permits with the City of Tallahassee for a project valued at $4 million.

Jane Wilder with the Mayfield Group says the company behind the project, "Hunter & Harp Holdings" plans to hold a press event on February 12 to reveal what the company plans on building. Designs show a four-story building being proposed with either a Walgreens or CVS as the anchor tenant, with additional retail, office, and parking space.

Sue Dick, president of the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Council says the capital city is seeing a rise in new projects.

"In 2012 there were over 2 million square feet under construction, where as in 2011, it was close to 600 thousand square feet, so to the eye you're seeing a lot of square footage and construction take place," Dick said.

Other projects in the area include a new Whole Foods grocery store on Thomasville Road that's slated to be open later this year. Crews will also begin working on a new Trader Joe's grocery store inside the Carriage Gate Shopping plaza on Thomasville Road.

There are also talks of other new retails stores coming to Tallahassee including several different outdoor sporting good stores, and a steakhouse on Capital Circle Northeast next to Chick-Fil-A.
