TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Three local veterans are among 20 inducted into the Florida Veterans' Hall of Fame.

One of them is John Folsom, a navy veteran of the Vietnam War. After serving, he spent 28 years as a postal worker in Quincy.

He also joined the American Legion Post 13 as a commander and helped establish the Tallahassee Big Bend Honor Guard. He also has worked to help homeless veterans and has dressed up as Santa Claus for children with special needs.

Folsom says he never expected to be honored with this recognition and he's grateful to continue helping others after serving the country overseas.

"It just seemed to fall naturally," said Folsom. "My wife used to tell me that I waited years before I really got started as far as the VSO's, the veterans services organizations, mattered -- but I just think it was a natural thing. Just always did. It was just natural once you got out of the service to continue helping."

Also honored locally were FSU president John Thrasher and Captain Dale Doss, who both served in the Vietnam War.
