TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Loved ones celebrate the season of giving by honoring those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Wreaths Across America honors veterans every December with a ceremony at the Tallahassee National Cemetery.

"My husband and her son died two days apart," said Andrea Simms.

Andrea Simms and Joyce Rolle both lost a family member who served.

Darrell Anthony Simms and Burdell Miller Jr. The two men died just two days apart in July 2017.

Simms, from a sudden heart attack. He was 50. Miller got killed in a car accident at 48.

From heartache grew friendship.

"We have multiple connections that have drawn us together... and this just made us closer," said Rolle, who's an Air Force Reserve Veteran.

They're not the only ones, either.

"This community coming together to do this event is really a great thing," said Rolle.

The Tallahassee Wreaths Across America Ceremony brought together hundreds of family and friends of fallen military veterans, each group laying down a Christmas wreath at their graves.

"It's just a real honor to be out here...for people to donate their wreaths... and we can come out and place the wreaths on our loved ones' graves ourselves," Rolle said. "I think that's a real honor."

An honor for all of the men and women who served and a reminder of what the season of giving is all about.
