TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — A 45-year-old woman pushing a young child down the sidewalk on West Tennessee Street was hit and killed by a car Monday night, authorities said.
The Tallahassee Police Department says the crash happened in the area of West Tennessee Street and White Drive around 8 p.m. Monday night.
Police say the driver was traveling westbound on West Tennessee Street approaching Dixie Drive when they swerved to avoid what they believed thought was an imminent crash.
Their car subsequently left the road and hit a 45-year-old woman who was pushing a stroller with a young child in it. TPD says Both the woman and the stroller had been on the sidewalk when the crash happened.
The woman died at the scene and the child was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Police say there are elements of this case which are still under active investigation, and there is no more information to release at this time.
It's unclear of the driver in the crash will be charged.
