TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Volunteers from Access Tallahassee gathered downtown in the Gallie Alley off East College Avenue to help turn graffiti into artwork.
The volunteers cleaned and gave the walls a new blue slate, so 11 chosen local artists can use the alleyway as their respective canvases.
"We needed to do something that was creative to abate the graffiti, but also give way to something that's uplifting and exciting, and gives people a reason to come out and be proud of our community and the amount of talent that we have in Tallahassee," said Elizbeth Emmanuel, the CEP of Downtown Improvement Authority.
The transformation of the Gallie Alley is only the beginning of a continued effort where the Downtown Improvement Authority will partner with KCCI Tallahassee to expand their 'Art of the Box' initiative and create more murals downtown.
