VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) — Valdosta City Schools announced that they will be closed through at least March 27 due to growing concerns over coronavirus.

If they extend the closure, officials will communicate that message with families.

"Many may question why our district was open today, Friday, March 13. Mainly, we understand that our families will need time to plan for childcare before our schools close on Monday," the school said in a statement. "Additionally, we wanted to have an opportunity to share expectations with our faculty and staff concerning the school closure."

All school building activities, extracurricular activities, athletics, and trips have been canceled. During the closure, students and staff should not go to any office or school in the Valdosta City School System.
