VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) — Authorities are investigating after an 18-year-old was fatally shot at a party in Valdosta over the weekend.
The Valdosta Police Department has confirmed that the woman who was shot at a party in Valdosta over the weekend has died.
That woman has now been identified by family and authorities as 18-year-old Desiyunna Hill.
The shooting happened around 1 a.m. Saturday morning on the 1700 block of North Lee Street. Through an investigation, police learned that there was a party at an event center in the area that had "hundreds of teenagers" in attendance.
As the party was ending, gunshots were fired into the crowd and Hill was caught in the crossfire. When officers arrived, they found Hill on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds and began providing first aid to Hill until EMS arrived to take her to the hospital.
VPD says Hill received treatment at the South Georgia Medical Center but died from her injuries late that evening.
“There were over two hundred teenagers gathered at the location when this incident took place," said Chief Leslie Manahan. "This is a senseless act of violence which lead to a tragic loss of a young lady’s life. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the victim, who lost her life way too early.”
Police say an argument may have lead to the gunfire, though they have not identified a suspect. No one has been arrested at this time.
The investigation is still ongoing.
