LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — Two people have been hospitalized in serious condition after a head-on crash on Mahan Drive Wednesday afternoon caused both their vehicles to overturn.

The Florida Highway Patrol says the crash happened Wednesday around 3:20 p.m.

They say a 2007 Ford Ranger driven by Donald Burthe, 53, of Tallahassee was traveling west on Mahan Drive near Still Creek Drive while a 2015 Chevy Equinox was driving the opposite way.

At some point, troopers say Burthe failed to stay in his lane and crossed into the eastbound line, causing a head-on crash between the two vehicles.

After the inital crash, Burthe's car began to overturn and came to a rest on it's right side. Troopers say the Chevy Equinox also overturned before coming to the rest in the middle of the road.

Both drivers were transported to the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

FHP says Burthe has been cited for failure to maintain lane.
