FRANKLIN COUNTY, Fla. — An Eastpoint 15-year-old girl was killed in a four vehicle accident after she failed to yield at an intersection in Franklin County.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the 15-year-old died from her injuries sustained in the accident.

According to FHP, the accident happened at about 3:09 p.m. Monday at the intersection of US-98 and State Road 65.

The 15-year-old, who was driving a Toyota RAV4, was traveling south on State Road 65 approaching the intersection of State Road 65 and US-98, while a dump truck was traveling west on US-98 approaching the same intersection.

According to FHP, the 15-year-old began to reduce speed as she entered the intersection trying to make a left turn onto US-98. FHP said the 15-year-old failed to yield while entering the intersection and traveled into the immediate path of a dump truck.

That caused the front of the dump truck to hit the driver's side of the 15-year-old's Toyota and after the initial impact, the dump truck pushed the Toyota in front of a Ford F-250.

The Ford F-250 then began to spin and hit a Land Rover, causing the Land Rover to hit a tree.

FHP said the dump truck continued pushing the Toyota RAV4 until the truck rolled onto it's side. FHP stated the Toyota ultimately became engulfed in flames.

Franklin County Fire Rescue quickly arrived to extinguish the fire, but the 15-year-old was pronounced dead on scene by Franklin County Paramedics.

FHP was assisted by Franklin County Sheriff A..J. Smith and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

Alcohol did not play a factor in the accident and charges are pending a Traffic Homicide Investigator investigation.
