TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The two people accused of murdering Florida State University professor, Dan Markel, in 2014 will continue on with trial later this month.

Attorneys for Sigfredo Garcia and Katherine Magbanua phoned in earlier Wednesday for a pre-trial hearing.

The defense brought up new witnesses that the state wants to call, but said they haven't been given enough notice.

Meanwhile the state asked for clarity about experts that the defense wants to use. Leon County Judge James Hankinson decided that he wouldn't take any action until the trial.

"I was trying to see whether anybody envisions they're going to need additional hearing time," said Hankinson. "If they do, you need to work it out with my office because hearing time will be precious between now and then. We'll work it out if we need it. The sooner the better."

There is one more pre-trial hearing scheduled for Sept. 19. Jury selection is still slated for Sept. 23.
