THOMASVILLE, Ga. — The school year has started but Thomasville City School District is still looking for its next superintendent.
A community forum just kicked off to let parents have a say in what they want to see from the next superintendent.
The position has been open since May when the Thomasville City Board of Education unanimously accepted the resignation of then Superintendent Dr. Laine K. Reichert. The School Board never gave a reason for her resignation.
About a month later, Lance Heard stepped into the role as interim superintendent.
On Friday, the Georgia School Boards Association and the Thomasville City Schools Board of Educators are asking parents to help them look for the next leader with the Superintendent Search Community Forum.
"It's important to be involved in the process because for one thing, their children are directly involved. Superintendent is a very important title here in Thomasville so parents should be involved in the selection," said Courtney Davenport, MacIntyre Park Middle School Principal.
Davenport says that he hopes to see the board select someone with a lot of experience, but most importantly, compassion for the students.
If you're interested in weighing in, it's happening right now at the MacIntyre Park Middle School Auditorium. It'll go until 7:00 p.m.
