TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Kearney Center has provided relief for those experiencing homelessness in Tallahassee for the last four years and in the next couple of week's, it will reach a great milestone.
One million sure does sound like a lot, but when you are feeding one million people, to the Kearney Center, it's a huge accomplishment.
The Kearney Center serves breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday through Friday and brunch and dinner on the weekends for those experiencing some sort of homelessness. And within the next few weeks, the Kearney Center will provide its one millionth meal.
Employees say seeing the look on those they serve is priceless.
"They leave here thanking me for helping them in our kitchen, for supplying food for them and you don't get that in a lot of jobs where people call you a god send and they say thank you and one guy even told me that I saved his life because of what we do here at the center," said Bill Shack, Food Service Director at Kearney Center.
The Kearney Center also provides, medical services, employment training, and much more.
On average, the Kearney Center feeds about 700 people per day.
