TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — ABC 27 and Second Harvest joined forces to create Feeding Hope and, on Friday, held a 12-hour tele-a-thon fundraising campaign.
Thanks to the generosity of our community, the Feeding Hope Campaign raised $75,000.
With that money, Second Harvest of the Big Bend can continue their mission to feed the hungry in the Big Bend through their network of partner agencies as well as continue to educate and engage the community in the fight against hunger.
Just this past week, Feeding Florida reported a 25 - 70 percent increase in food assistance needs statewide. At Second Harvest, they've seen a big spike in traffic to their website during the past week due to the coronavirus pandemic and expected layoffs.
In the Big Bend, one in five people go hungry every day.
This campaign and everyone who took part in it play a big role in bringing those numbers down.
