TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Operations Specialist 3rd Class Tyrelle Smith, has received an official commendation by an U.S Navy commanding officer for his performance during pre-deployment.
According to the Navy Office of Community Outreach, Smith received this honor from Capt. Lance Lesher for exemplary performance during pre-deployment aboard the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5).
Smith is a 2018 Godby High School graduate and has been serving in the Navy for one and a half years.
As an operations specialist, Smith maintains tactical overview of surface and air interoperability.
Navy officials say Bataan and the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group are now deployed in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations.
