TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Some of Florida's last Greyhound racing tracks will close their doors for good on December 31.

This comes after legislation banned the sport in 2018.

Local groups like Big Dog Rescue in Tallahassee that focus on fostering dogs to families are excited the sport is finally over.

"We want to see the end of animal exploitation," said Sharon Brown with Big Dog Rescue. "We're against any group that takes advantage of animals and puts them in a situation where at the end of their usefulness they're homeless."

Brown asks for anyone who is interested to contact Greyhound rescue groups in the area to help re-home some of the displaced animals.
