TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — The Tallahassee community continues to give, rallying around one of its own.

Talethia Edwards is a business woman, community advocate and a mother of nine. Now, people around the city are putting their dollars together to give Edwards and her family more room as they grow.

Edwards says this is definitely not something she and her husband were expecting.

Almost $12,000 was raised in 24 hours for the Edwards family.

Talethia Edwards says this was a prayer answered as her children get older.

Edwards has dedicated her life to serving others, but was taken back when members of the community started a GoFundMe page for her family.

The goal was to raise money to add three more bedrooms and a bathroom to the Edwards home. With a full house, Edwards always talked about the need for more space, but only to family members.

When she got the news of what people were doing, she immediately felt peace.

"One of the worries that I have will be taken care of," said Edwards. "And that such a great community, Tallahassee, has done that for our family. I'm going to be writing thank you cards forever."

They have been living in their four bedroom house for 14 years and it has worked well for them.

But the Edwards are excited to stretch out a little bit as their family of 11 grows up. Friends of the family say they are more than deserving of this.

The community is looking to raise $100,000 for the Edwards family.
