TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A local middle school is hitting a home run for families in need this Christmas.
Swift Creek Middle School hosted their Home-Run Derby to raise money for the Big Bend Homeless Coalition.
Students and staff paid to take part in the tournament and all the money goes toward buying gifts for homeless families for the holidays.
Event organizer and teacher, Brian Howard and his class made the event happen.
The principal says she hopes the students were able to fulfill the school's message.
"Our message at Swift Creek is to have a servant's heart. We truly want to put others needs before ours," said Sue Rishell, principal at Swift Creek Middle.
The school was able to raise around $450 to buy gifts and Target agreed to donate a $500 gift card.
