TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — For some, every year is tough around the holidays.

This year, due to the pandemic, money is even tighter. That's why some in Tallahassee are teaming up this weekend to make sure every kid has a present under their tree this year.

The "share the warmth" gift collection drive, hosted by the ICE Foundation, Tallahassee Housing Authority, and Leon County School Board Member Darryl Jones, collected blankets, toys, and bikes for kids in public housing and Title One schools.

Organizers say they are overwhelmed with the support they've received.

"Every year, we have been able to bless so many families with the help with our Tallahassee neighbors," said R. Jai Gillum, who helped organize the drive. "So many organizations and churches have supported us, and we know that the same way we want to see the smiles on our children's faces on Christmas morning, it's important that we can bless children in our community that need us most."

Donations can still be made to the Akbar Law firm and the Pittman Law Group until Dec. 18.
