TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — With Tallahassee Police Chief Michael Deleo resigning, there are a lot of questions about what is next for the Tallahassee Police Department?

City Manager Reese Goad said on Wednesday Major Steve Outlaw will begin serving as Interim Chief for the Tallahassee Police Department, starting on July 6.

Outlaw was promoted to Major back in December of 2016. Goad also said a nationwide search for a permanent police chief will begin immediately.

"This is not something that takes weeks. This is one that takes months. It's one that you make sure is known nationally," said Goad. "That you recruit the very best manager and you take the time you need."

He said going forward TPD will build on its successes and remain a model agency.
