Ring doorbells helping TPD solve crimes

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Ring doorbell app is teaming up with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to try to help find missing kids.

The Neighbors app by Ring is free and it's designed to connect to neighborhoods, even if you don't have a Ring doorbell camera.

Missing child posters will appear directly in the app targeted to a 3-to-5 mile radius where the child was last seen.

You can click on the photo to get more information and comment on possible sightings.

The Tallahassee Police Department was on our midday show Wednesday and said they also use Ring to help solve crimes.

"When we're looking for someone that's missing or any crime that's in the area, we do a canvas of the area and see if anyone captured it on their Ring doorbell camera," said TPD Officer Damon Miller. "That's been very helpful to us especially with people breaking into cars. A lot of times we'll catch a suspect and of course they'll tell us they didn't do anything but we'll have captured them on three or four different Ring doorbells."

Another way you can use your Ring doorbell is to help stop porch pirates.

If you've got any video of people stealing packages off of doorsteps, you can send it to TPD.
