TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) — Willie Jewell's BBQ is donating a portion of their profit from gift card purchases to Second Harvest to help feed 10,000 kids. "Second Harvest, restaurants, we all need to come together and this is something that we can do," said Lisa Davis, the Director of Catering for Willie Jewell's BBQ and Tally Fish House.

Coming together and supporting one another is something the Tallahassee community is doing well since the impact of Covid-19. Chip Evans, the owner of Willie Jewell's and Tally Fish House said, "We reached out to Second Harvest and said how can we as a business support kids in particular with you all. Ultimately, developed a plan whereas, well what we can do is, we can sell gift cards."

For example, if you buy a gift card from Willie Jewell's BBQ, you will obviously receive the full amount.

"You're going to get $25 of that gift card, you're going to get to go home and come back and use that gift card anytime you want," said Evans. "I'm going to take that $25 that I receive, and I'm going to give 20%, which in the $25 gift card is $5, back to Second Harvest as a cash donation."

Evans explained that gift card purchases can lead to impactful donations that could give 20,000 meals to kids. "If we could just get a thousand people to come in and buy a $25 gift card, I'm going to give $5 from every one of those gift cards, which is my entire profit margin."

The project will go through May 31st. Davis added, "If everybody can do a little bit of something in the long run, we can all do a big something at the end."

Alongside Willie Jewell's BBQ, owner Chip Evans was set to open Tally Fish House this month. That's been pushed back because of the virus. However, if you purchase the Willie Jewell's gift card that specifically benefits Second Harvest, you will be able to use it at Tally Fish House once they open. Make sure you hold on to your purchase receipt.
