TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Refuge House is a resource center for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in the Big Bend.
With April being Sexual Assault Awareness Month, they’re spreading their message virtually instead of holding in-person workshops. In this time of social distancing, that isolation creates new risks for survivors.
“Survivors may feel they can’t report an assault, because they fear going to the emergency room or feel that sexual assault is not "as important" to medical providers or law enforcement who are dealing with COVID-19 as the priority,” the organization wrote in a press release.
At RefugeHouse.com, there are videos and other tools designed to help victims of sexual assault.
Refuge House also wants survivors and our community to know that they’re still available 24/7. Their number is 850-681-2111. If you can’t speak freely on the phone, send an e-mail to helpdesk@refugehouse.com.
