GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — Thank you: Those two words can't be said enough to the healthcare workers on the front lines of this pandemic and Wednesday morning Quincy Mayor Keith Dowdell took that a step further.

Dowdell visited Capital Regional Medical Center to personally thank their employees for their efforts.

The staff is working 12 hour shifts with only a brief 30 minute break as long as the patient load permits.

"Health professionals are heroes," said Dowdell. "Just like we do sports heroes or any other kind of hero, we need to treat our health care professionals with joy. Because this is something that they did not ask for."

"This is just totally different," said Darlene Price, the clinical manager for Gadsden County ER. "As the symptoms change and as the guidelines change everyday it's been a challenge for our staff to keep up."

This isn't a one-time thank you. The mayor is planning to honor Gadsden County health care workers weekly.
