TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — The pandemic is still putting a strain on hundreds of organizations, including the Special Olympics.
Now, Publix has said that their Torch Icon fundraiser is more important than ever.
Special Olympics Florida partners with the grocery chain every year.
The money they raise goes toward travel, health services and training for athletes.
Timothy Hodgins, a Special Olympic athlete from Tallahassee said without the help, he wouldn't have been able to compete in bowling or tennis the past 12 years.
"What it means to me that you create and meet new friends, it's comradery," said Hodgins. "You have the ability to step up and show and shine for other athletes. Become a leader."
The Publix Torch Icon fundraiser ends Jan. 18.
