TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — A staple in Tallahassee events won't let the coronavirus stop the annual event from happening.
The Chain of Parks Art Festival organizers said they hope the event will go on this year, with safety being their top priority.
City commissioners gave the green-light for special events in Tallahassee last week and COVID-19 safety plans are now mandatory for any special event in the City.
The arts festival is one of the first to go through this process with four entrances to prevent crowding and to manage capacity, along with a wristband system that would allow volunteers to know who should be in the parks at that time.
The chair of the event said they've developed a system where people can have fun and still be safe.
"Given that we're an outdoor event it's much safer and if people wear masks and follow the protocol we think it's going to be an amazing art show. We've got some wonderful artists coming 125 artists," said Kelly Dozier.
There will be 20 hand-washing stations around the festival and masks will be mandatory.
They are also considering live and virtual streaming options for people who might not feel comfortable coming out.
The arts festival is scheduled for April 17 and 18.
The city commission is set to give final approval for the event at the next commission meeting.
The Chain of Parks said if the festival has to be canceled due to COVID-19, it would happen before February.
