TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Three organizations in the Big Bend area are working together to ensure people in assisted living facilities are taken care of during the coronavirus pandemic.

Florida Living Assistant Association and Florida Community Care helped distribute boxes stuffed with food to assistant living facilities and adult family care homes across the area.

The food distribution was held outside Tapestry Senior Living on Walden Road with food provided by the non-profit, Farmers to Families Food Box Program.

Each box contained five bags filled with produce like apples to pre-mixed salads.

Organizers say a food distribution drive like this are a big help for high-risk communities.

"This initiative has also offset some of the cost that our ALS and senior living communities have endured with additional PPE and staffing changes," said Veronica Catoe with Florida Living Assistant Association. "That has not been precedent with our COVID situation."
